Finland and Estonia flank the Gulf of Finland, an arm of the Baltic Sea which for hundreds of years has been a natural trading route between Western Europe and the region now primarily encompassed by European Russia. As a consequence, both Finland and Estonia are well placed to serve as "go-betweens" for U.S. exporters interested in minimizing their risks when selling to the Russian market.
