NEW YORK - TDK has reduced its price on consumer recordable compact discs 20 percent in hopes of building a new consumer recording market. Effective Sept. 1, 60-minute high-performance CD-RXG discs will be $19 each, down from $25.
Tim Sullivan, vice president of marketing, said TDK reduced the price because it wants to support the recordable compact disc market and the second-generation audio CD-R recently introduced by Pioneer.
"Pioneer has just introduced a more affordable home recording unit and we wanted to help support the format. We're hoping that other hardware companies will jump on board," he said.
