PLANS for a memorial in Queensferry in recognition of the workers who were killed during the construction of the Forth Bridge took a major leap forward this week.
The design for the structure was unveiled and within months a fundraising appeal will be launched to help raise the [pounds sterling]50,000 needed to complete the project.
But before fundraising can begin, planning permission is required from both Edinburgh and Fife Councils.
It is planned to erect two memorials, one on either side of the Forth, to the 71 workers who died during the seven-year construction of the bridge.
