WASHINGTON (FNS) -- Once a free government is established, Cuba is poised to become an economic powerhouse that could rival Mexico in dominating the Caribbean and Central American region in textile and apparel investment, business and trade analysts predict.
Only 90 miles off the coast of Florida, its proximity to the U.S. makes Cuba ideal for quick turnaround and inexpensive transportation costs, while its large, educated work force make it an outstanding location for assembly industries, said Teo Babun, president of the Miami-based Cuba-Caribbean Development Co., which advises firms on ways to prepare for the post-Castro market.
