The following correction was published Jan. 19, 2008:
WORCESTER - A handgun purchased in mid-October by an undercover city police officer was the personal property of a Worcester County Sheriff's Department employee and was not issued to him by the department. A story and headline in yesterday's Telegram & Gazette about the arrest of the alleged gun seller incorrectly stated that the weapon was the property of the Sheriff's Department.
Sheriff's Department spokesman Keith D. Mitchell and city police confirmed the gun had been stolen from the employee. A registration check conducted through the federal Bureau of Alcohol, ...
