Last summer, Whitney Pollack was preparing for an 11-week study abroad program in Argentina when her mother was diagnosed with leukemia.
"It was really hard to hear," said Pollack. "I had almost forgotten what it was like. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess."
What Pollack, a 21-year-old University of Oregon junior, had almost forgotten was that her mother, Sandy Pollack, had fought cancer in the past, including a battle with breast cancer in the early e_SSRq90s and a victory over lymphoma five years ago. She had thought her mother's days of chemotherapy, radiation and long hospital stays were over.
