JUST a day after the close of the Taste of Chicago earlier this summer, a week-long festival at which 3 million people consumed $11 million worth of food at 67 restaurant concessions representing 23 ethnic groups -- the day after all that, the feeding and grazing areas in Grant Park and along Columbus Drive were clean enough, well, to eat from.
In fact, Chicago's Streets and Sanitation workers have performed heroically throughout the spring and summer. Daley Plaza, Navy Pier, the infamous Pedway, even lower Wacker, where the rats feed and the homeless dwell in their refrigerator boxes -- the city is getting a scrubbing and a facelift.
