Agencies reveal new Antarctica map.(GOVERNMENTCONNECTION)(Brief article)

The British Antarctic Survey worked with the National Science Foundation (NSF), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and NASA to produce a Landsat Image Mosaic of Antarctica (LIMA) map, which combines more than 1,100 hand-selected Landsat satellite scenes that were digitally compiled to create a single, seamless, cloud-free image.

Antarctica is becoming a popular tourist destination and continues to be a focal point for research into polar-warming trends. Project leaders say the mosaic provides a "snapshot in time" of Antarctica's ice sheets, which contain more than 60 percent the world's fresh water.
