A FORMER policeman bludgeoned to death in a burglary at his home is thought to have kept thousands of pounds in cash in the house.
The body of car dealer David Ward, 37, was discovered at his end terrace house off Denby Dale Road at Wakefield by police who responded to reports of a burglary just after 2am on Wednesday.
Mr Ward died after suffering severe head and facial injuries.
Neighbours are said to have heard one of the intruders shout: "Where's the safe?"
