A new Syracuse group affiliated with the Rev. Al Sharpton is aiming to bring the black community and others together to address human rights and social justice issues.
The Syracuse chapter of Sharpton's National Action Network, which formed 22 weeks ago, is hosting the activist in a speech Saturday afternoon at Bethany Baptist Church.
Walter Dixie, president of the chapter, said the organization was needed because existing groups have largely failed to address the issues facing black people and other marginalized groups in Syracuse.
