Madison Vicinity
One of the most notable Gothic Revival churches built in Mississippi before the Civil War is Chapel of the Cross, near Madison, which was begun about 1852. Its design is a modification of a published design by Frank Wills, one of the leading architects of the Ecclesiological movement.
Church Hill
Christ Church (Episcopal) in Jefferson County was built in 1857-58 on the site of an earlier church. It is a particularly intact example of a Gothic Revival church from the antebellum period. The brick walls are clad in stucco that has been scored to resemble stone blocks.
