FISHERMAN ESCAPES AFTER VESSEL CAPSIZES.

A LOCAL fisherman had a lucky escape when his boat, Northern Star, sunk within a minute of capsizing on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident, at around 1 p.m., happened a third-of-a-mile from the harbour's entrance, just north of the leading light.

By sheer coincidence lifeboat crewman were scanning the sea at the time and immediately sounded the alarm.

However, the skipper, Bob Teviotdale, was able to contact the crew of Shamara, a vessel working in the neighbouring area, who pulled him to safety.

Both lifeboats were on the scene in rapid time, but Northern Star sunk within a minute leaving a small section of bow bobbing gingerly above the surface.
