Article: Senate committee passes bill to allow DOE to sell $100 million of Weeks Island Crude.(Senate Appropriations Committee, Dept. of Energy, crude petroleum from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve)

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee on Friday approved a fiscal 1996 budget including language to allow the Department of Energy (DOE) to sell $100 million worth of crude from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

The $100 million translates into about 7 million bbl of oil, according to DOE estimates.

The committee also followed subcommittee recommendations in approving a $15 million cut from the budget of DOE's Energy Information Administration (EIA), in addition to the $4 million already slated for elimination.

The cut brings EIA's budget down to $65 million from $84 million in fiscal 1995.
