NEW YORK--The more sand it covers, the more popular it will be next summer.
That's the prediction of textile suppliers who see a trend in larger beach towels. The 40 by 70 inch bath sheet is taking away sales from the standard 30 by 60 inch version.
"The 30 by 60 sheet is virtually dead except for licenses," said Carol Gindey, vice president of product development of ALa Carte Linens in California.
Franco & Sons expects 40 by 70 velour jacquards to be big for summer '96. Retailers tested them this summer and were pleased with the response, according to Joseph Franco, vice president of marketing.
