She framed it--and taught me something about writing: heart-born words, honest and simply said, can last forever.
Since then I've written many more love letters. To Lauren Gomez in first grade, I penned the following: Dear Lauren, that kiss you gave me behind the handball wall was yucky. Don't ever do it again. Signed, Steve.
Four years later I joined the pantheon of Byron, Keats, and Shelley with the following verse, composed for the new L in my life, Laurie Cooperman:
Roses are red,
Violets are blue.
The sun is sunny
And so are you.
