Glenn Tilton has the chance to make good on his oft-stated belief that the airline industry needs less competition.
But the chief of United Airlines parent UAL Corp. may need to give up control to get a deal done, something he's been unwilling to do in the past.
Mr. Tilton "is in buyer mentality, but often there has to be a merger of equals,'' says a United insider familiar with the CEO's thinking.
Delta Air Lines is talking to United and Northwest Airlines Corp. about a possible deal, but Delta CEO Richard Anderson has signaled he intends to run any merged airline and keep it based in Atlanta. ...
