Article: EUROPEAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY : INDEPENDENT REPORT SLAMS COMMISSION PROPOSALS.

The European Commission's proposals to create a European Institute of Technology have been judged unfeasible by independent experts, in a report drawn up for MEPs and published on 27 March.

A major concern is that the institute will not have enough central funding to be sustainable. The EU executive is planning to provide 308.7 million in direct finance to the EIT between 2008-2013, equivalent to 1/8 of its overall budget. According to one of the report's authors, Dr Peter Tindemans, "it is clear that any form of EIT requires more central money".
