The European Parliament adopted, on 29 November in Brussels, a report by Jo Leinen (PES, Germany) which advocates the new version of the Charter of Fundamental Rights. The vote was 534 in favour, 85 against and 21 abstentions.
Through this vote, MEPs empower their President, Hans-Gert Pottering (EPP-ED), to (re)proclaim the charter on 12 December in Strasbourg, with his counterparts from the Council and the Commission. They also accept that the text will be published in the Official Journal of the EU.
