The doubts raised in various quarters about the idea of Turkish EU membership and problems over the Cyprus question look to be taking their toll on Turks' view of the 25-member bloc. A new Eurobarometer opinion survey has found that only 35% of Turks tend to trust the EU, a big drop from 50% in autumn 2005. The percentage of people with a positive image of the EU was found to have fallen from 60% to 43%. And Turks' support for further EU enlargement was down seven points to 45%.
