A new strategy on the Black Sea region, put forward by the European Commission on 11 April, aims to increase the EU's involvement in the area through enhanced regional cooperation.
In a bid to better coordinate its current engagement in the energy-rich Black Sea region, which is based predominantly on bilateral policies, the Commission decided to put forward a new comprehensive strategy aiming, in particular, at enhancing regional cooperation with countries in the region and between them. The Black Sea region comprises three EU member states (Romania, Bulgaria, Greece), Turkey, which is an EU candidate state, as well as Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, ...
