On 26 June, Information Society Commissioner Viviane Reding confirmed to members of the European Parliament's Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) the creation of a foundation in the framework of a European library project launched in 2005. This foundation could become a legal body' in the autumn of 2007, stated Reding. "Cultural institutions will be in charge and not the member states," she explained. For the Commission that is sponsoring the project, what is most important is that cultural institutions coordinate and interoperate their systems.
