The European Commission officially presented proposals for Decisions on 19 May permitting Switzerland to integrate the Single European Sky and participate in the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Formal decisions were finalised at the meeting of the EU/Switzerland Joint Committee at the end of November 2005, and their approval by the EU Council of Ministers is a foregone conclusion. The aim is to extend the Switzerland/EU aviation agreement - which has enabled the Swiss to apply EU legislation on air transport since it entered into force in 2002 - to include rules on the Single European Sky and the EASA since adopted.
