Number of new homes falls 42pc in year
THE housebuilding slump is hitting every county in Ireland, with the biggest drop in new homes recorded at 82pc in Longford, official government figures reveal.
Counties recording the highest falls in the number of new homes planned for 2008 include Leitrim (66.6pc), Monaghan (65pc), Roscommon (59.9pc) and Wexford (55pc).
The figures are based on official notifications sent to the Department of Environment by builders in 2007 on the number of new homes they plan to construct this year.
