During this past year it has been my honor and privilege to assume the editorship of Topics in Early Childhood Special Education. It is an honor because TECSE is recognized as one of the most esteemed journals not only in early childhood but in the entire field of special education. It has earned this status due to the superb and successful efforts of my predecessors; most notably Dr. Judy Carta, who was the most recent steward and who established an admirable tradition of high quality and incisive responsiveness to the journal's readership.
I sought and then accepted the position of editor with some hesitation. My initial reluctance stemmed from my awareness that ...
