A CALDERDALE accountant has welcomed the Chancellor's U-turn on capital gains tax and said it would help many of the region's small employers.

But David Roper of Lambert, Roper and Horsfield warned there could still be some hefty tax bills waiting for those who sold their businesses.

He said the Chancellor's original plan to scrap Taper relief - a gradual staged reduction - and impose a flat rate of 18 per cent had pulled the rug from under the feet of many entrepreneurs.
