Article: EPA signals willingness to approve cuts in oxygenated fuels in New York, Connecticut.(reformulated gasoline)

WASHINGTON -- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is willing to approve proposals by New York and Connecticut to shorten the winter oxygenated fuels programs for their sectors of the New York metropolitan area to four months from seven, an agency spokesman said.

That would cut the season to Nov. 1-Feb. 28 from the current Oct. 1-April 30 -- a step already taken by New Jersey for its portion of the New York urban area.

Because all the regulatory steps at the federal and state levels will not be completed before October, New York has unofficially put out the word that it will not enforce the program this October. But there is as yet ...
