Where did Abraham Lincoln live when he was president? The White House is only part of the answer. Lincoln and his family also lived in a mansion about 3 miles from the White House. The building, called President Lincoln's Cottage, will open to the public February 19.

Experts think Lincoln worked on the famous Emancipation Proclamation while staying at the cottage. Lincoln signed that document in 1863 during the Civil War (1861-1865), freeing most U.S. slaves.
