FAR be it from me to suggest that the former Women's Land Army girlsshouldn't receive a medal. I'm not saying they don't deserve it; I'm sure theydid a very worthwhile job in the warbut at least they weren't in any danger from bombs.
What about the factory girls who worked in great danger with explosive powderand never knew the moment when they could be bombed? Thousands of women like medid 12-hour shifts in the aero-engine factory in Coventry.
We had to live in a hostel where the food was very poor, but if we couldn't eatit there was nothing else.
Out of 50 people from my village, those who worked at the Royal OrdnanceFactory died very early.
