Being an avid mariner is natural for Paul Lemmon, the owner of the Mel's Marine Service - the family-owned boat and retail shop that his father started.

Lemmon says he likes nothing more than anchoring his pontoon in the middle of Fern Ridge Lake to bask in the sun, or taking one of his aluminum boats out to fish for steelhead.

Even though he earned his livelihood for 40 years by working on boats, Lemmon's father - the namesake founder of Mel's Marine - almost never took his family out to the water.
