SYDNEY, Feb 7 Asia Pulse - The Australian dollar opened moderately firmer today as easing anxiety about a US recession helped commodities-based currencies recover.

At 0700 AEDT, the Australian dollar was trading at .8975/80, up from yesterday's close of 0.8952/58.

During the overnight offshore session, the domestic currency traded between a low of $US0.8909 and a high of 0.8998.

Bank of New Zealand currency strategist Danica Hampton said the Australian dollar recovered in the overnight session as traders worried less about a global slowdown stemming from a possible US recession.
