Chain drug retailers, so long content to confine their thinking to the present, have begun seriously worrying about the future. Their future. Much of the discussion at the recent NACDS board meeting in Colorado Springs concerned itself with the future of chain drug retailing, and how that future will be affected by those events of today and tomorrow that are beyond the industry's control.
One presentation in particular, that of Matt McNearney of Yankelovich & Partners, both addressed and reflected those concerns. But it did not diminish them. The future of chain drug retailing - and indeed all mass retailing - is anybody's guess.
