The Romanian parliament was expected to ratify the Lisbon Treaty late on 4 February following a debate, in which French President Nicolas Sarkozy participated during an official visit to Bucharest. Romania was thus to become the fourth country, after Hungary on 17 December and Slovenia and Malta on 29 January, to adopt the EU text.
