TREES lining a renowned Newmarket street are to be chopped down and replaced because they pose a danger to pedestrians.
Suffolk County Council will be removing the 24 Norway Maple and London Plane trees in The Avenue following complaints from residents that the roots were spreading under the ground and causing people to trip over.
It is also claimed the roots are causing damage to the pavement and garden walls of houses.
In replacement, the council is aiming to plant 34 mature Hornbeams along both sides of the road in April.
