NORFOLK, Va.--Oct. 26--Eastern Virginia Medical School generates a half a billion dollars a year in economic activity in Hampton Roads, according to a report by two Old Dominion University economists.
That amounts to roughly half the total annual economic impact of tourism in Virginia Beach, said economists Vinod Agarwal and Gilbert Yochum.
"I was very surprised," Yochum said. "I hadn't realized the incredible impact of patient care and the concentration of highly specialized knowledge that a medical school brings."
