The Wolfsonian was established in 1986 to oversee the Mitchell Wolfson Jr. Collection of some seventy thousand American and European objects dating from 1885 to 1945. The museum and research center, which has facilities in Miami Beach, Florida, and Genoa, Italy, is dedicated to examining the social, political, and aesthetic meanings of the objects in the collection.
