Building Will House Historic District Visitors' Center, May Become

NEW BEDFORD, Mass., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Waterfront Historic Area LeaguE (WHALE) will be the new owner of the former New Bedford Institution for Savings (NBIS) building at 33 William Street in New Bedford, it was announced today by the Historic Building Committee.
Fleet Bank, which owns the building as a result of its acquisition of NBIS' parent, NBB Bancorp, announced last February that it would donate the building to a nonprofit organization. The Historic Building Committee was created in May to consider proposals from potential recipients.
