LOS ANGELES _ O.J. Simpson's all-or-nothing defense suffered a body blow Thursday when Judge Lance Ito said jurors could consider second-degree murder verdicts when they begin deliberations.
The decision was just one bad break among several for Simpson's defense team, which also learned late Thursday morning that the state Supreme Court turned down its last-ditch appeal to introduce more information about former Detective Mark Fuhrman.
But the worst setback came when Ito refused to limit the jury's options to either first-degree murder verdicts or acquittal in the June 12, 1994 stabbing deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.
