WASHINGTON -- In a series of warning letters to compounding pharmacies across the country, the Food and Drug Administration has asserted a policy that the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists (IACP) charges would deny hundreds of thousands of women access to many compounded bioidentical hormones.

Hormone replacement is prescribed to relieve hot flashes and other symptoms resulting from the loss of estrogen in women who are undergoing menopause.
