Ever since its foundation in 1914, Wacker-Chemie has been synthesizing organic chemicals. The first products made at the main plant in Burghausen were acetaldehyde, acetic acid and acetone. As early as 1922, we developed a process for manufacturing acetic anhydride via ketene. At the end of the 50s, we passed a further landmark with the direct-oxidation process for converting ethylene to acetaldehyde. Inventiveness and technical innovation have always been the driving force behind developments at Wacker and they typify the Business Unit Organic Intermediates in its present form.
