Eliminating access to abortion is an unjust means of reducing the abortion rate, one that denies women their human rights - not to mention the fact that there is ample evidence that safe, legal abortions improve maternal outcomes.
It is estimated that more than 60,000 women die from unsafe abortion procedures every year in countries where the procedure is illegal. If placing barriers and restricting access to abortion is the strategy for reducing the number of abortions performed in the United States, the decline since 1990 is a hollow victory indeed.
