THE trumpeted theme of Campaign '08 reminds me of my grandmother's interpretation of Lady Macbeth: "She's having the Change."
I have to remember to catch myself every time I start to say, "If I hear the word 'change' one more time ..." The drumbeat is so incessant that I would have to go ahead and do whatever it is I threaten to do, and it might hurt. It might work, too: I'm on blood thinners.
I thought booze would help, but change, drunk or sober, is like my country, right or wrong: Nothing changes. Trying to drown our we-never-close politicking is like trying to drown a fish. Finally, I decided that the only escape is escapism, so I'm on a movie ...
