How do you feel about bats? Perhaps you have heard expressions like - "blind as a bat," "bats in the belfry," or "ding-bat." Bats are interesting and unusual animals that are often misunderstood.
Bat Facts
Although bats can fly, they are not at all like birds. Bats are mammals. A mammal's body is covered with fur (or hair), not feathers. Thin strong skin stretches over a bat's arm bones, long finger bones, and feet to form its wings. Skin also webs both sides of a bat's tail. Their thumbs and toes have special hooked claws which help them climb and hang. Bat mothers give birth to babies called pups and feed them milk.
