There were no signs at all and nobody could forecast the situation in July 2007. Instead of an increase, the price of concentrated nitric acid went down in the golden sales season. It hovered at the range of RMB1 300/t-RMB1 400/t that was very close to the cost range.
There had been lots of reasons to expect a price rise in July 2007.
(a) The traditional rule of seasonal price rise had determined that July is the brisk sales period for concentrated nitric acid.
(b) The negative impact of capacity expansion made in 2006 was already basically offset in the first half of 2007. The market in July 2007 should be favorable to suppliers.
