DESPITE announcing almost a year ago that wireless internet access would be available in 85 municipal libraries across the metro, this service is not yet available.
First World countries are often marked by their ability to provide mobile connectivity, enabling residents to access the internet, e-mail or just about anything imaginable.
The eThekwini Municipality realised the importance of this service and set about installing an extensive fibre-optic network to, ultimately, convert Durban into a wireless city. This has an added bonus of allowing the municipality to put most of their phone lines on this network, cutting their bill by millions of rands.
