A LIVERSEDGE man has become the first patient to be cared for in the high dependency unit of St James's Hospital's new Bexley Wing.
The [pounds sterling]220m wing was officially handed over to the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in December, replacing services at Cookridge Hospital.
But the honour of "officially" opening its HDU fell to Gordon Richards of Ashton Clough Road following surgery for liver cancer.
Just a day after his procedure Gordon was transferred to the unit, and as he was being taken there, the staff asked him to cut a ribbon to mark the event.
