SCHOLARS from a Mid Wales university are to search for evidence of the long-lost parent language from which Welsh and the other surviving Celtic languages developed Aberystwyth University's Department of Welsh, led by Professor Patrick Sims-Williams, has been awarded a pounds 390,000 grant to carry out the work.
Research already carried out has found the ancient Celtic language is known from inscriptions in areas of the Continent where writing systems developed early, starting in north Italy and Switzerland about 2,500 years ago, and then in Spain and France.
