In order to ease tensions in the Middle East and enhance the stability of the Mediterranean region, the EU wants to strengthen the role of the Arab League. For the first time since the Euromed partnership was launched in 1995, the 27-member bloc and the Arab League held a ministerial meeting, on 11 and 12 February in Malta, with the objective of reinforcing their strategic cooperation.
