A car-jacker who threatened to kill a motorist unless he drove him out of the area has walked free from court.
Ross Clancy, 21, of Devonshire Tower, Monkwearmouth, was armed with a Samurai sword when he told terrified Christopher Sheriff he had just killed his own father.
He then demanded to be taken on a 100-mile trip to Scarborough.
Clancy admitted affray and driving while disqualified.
Mr Recorder David Bradshaw sentenced Clancy to eight months imprisonment, suspended for 18 months with 100 hours of unpaid work and supervision.
He was banned from driving for 12 months.
