New facility could relieve some congestion at LAX

A new international airport serving the Southland, which could serve as a reliever airport to Los Angeles International Airport, is expected to get Federal Aviation Administration certification in the next few weeks but, so far, no airline carriers have scheduled service into it.

The San Bernardino International Airport, which was formerly the Norton Air Force Base, could get its first scheduled flights early next year, said Jim Monger, airport director.
