Trade: Consul general points to reduced inflation, exchange rate as signs

Luis Herrera-Lasso is not your typical diplomat, even though that is one of his primary roles as Mexico's consul general to San Diego, a position he has held for about a month.

At times, he can be surprisingly candid.

On his nation's current economic situation, Herrera-Lasso told a visiting group of trade specialists last week, "We are going through a very hard year."

Not that that was any great revelation to the 19 government officials from 15 Latin American countries visiting San Diego as part of a month-long tour of the country.
